I have about 10 posts to write to catch up on all that we've been doing lately, but first--I just had a seriously crazy-fun weekend. Hannah was baptized Saturday morning, and we had a bunch of family come into town. Jonathan and DeAnn and co. drove in Thursday night, and Daddy, Peter, and Bethany came early Saturday morning.
So. Much. Fun.
I love being related to cool people. We kept the kids home from school on Friday to hang out with their cousins. The morning was spent making messes and cramming in a bunch of playtime. We spent the afternoon at a nearby park playing frisbee.Saturday was busy--the good kind of busy. Daddy, Bethany and Peter arrived at 5:00 am, and the kids were up and ready to play with them about an hour after they got to sleep. Hannah was baptized in the morning, followed by soccer for the 3 oldest kids. Afterwards, the guys headed out grocery shopping for what might be the biggest/craziest meal we've hosted, ever. And that's saying something. Jonathan thought it might be fun to do Saturday night dinner like New Year's Eve, which was basically an excuse to pick up any and every kind of fun food imaginable. We had beef/chicken/pork kabobs, veggie kabobs, plank-grilled trout, crab cakes, coconut shrimp, jalapeno poppers, artichoke-spinach dip, macaroni and cheese (for the kids), caramel apples, croissants, fruit and dip, chocolate milk, apple cider, and the amazing egg nog/orange juice drink...did I forget something? (Christian gets his amazing food skills from his Daddy) I loved turning the kitchen over to the guys--even though I still haven't worked up the courage to clean up after it all. I'm still in a food-daze.
We played a long game of frisbee to work it off, and ended the night with a game of "If/Then."Unfortunately, due to normal life, everyone had to leave pretty early on Sunday. We're so glad they could come! And we're already looking forward to the next massive shin-dig after Christmas...
